The Process

Each design starts off as a sketch on a piece of paper. From there, I carve it into a 3D form using jeweller’s wax. This helps me get a sense of scale and proportion. Using sanding paper, files, scalpels, dentist tools and a soldering machine, I remove and add wax till I get something I’m happy with.
I then send it off to be cast externally. They do this through the lost wax process. This involves adding the wax model I make onto a “tree” made of wax. Several models are attached to this tree so many can be cast at once.
This tree is placed into a vessel and plaster is poured over it. Once set, the wax tree is then melted away from the plaster. This leaves behind a negative imprint to each model.
Molten silver is then poured into the plaster and left to cool. Once this is done, the plaster shell is broken, revealing the tree that is now made of silver. Each model is snipped off, then sent to its respective owner.
When I receive the pieces back, I spend a lot of time sanding and polishing them using sandpaper rolls, silicone discs and buffing wheels to get the pieces to either a satin or high shine finish.
After that, it’s sent off to be yours.
