Care Guide

Sterling silver is a popular material for jewellery, and is characterised by being 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. As pure silver is too soft, the copper that’s mixed in with it gives it its strength. It can last you a lifetime, as long as you take care of it.

Oxidisation is natural and although it may occur, the best thing about sterling silver is that you can easily remove it. You can follow hacks online to remove this, otherwise each order comes with a free polishing cloth which you can use to clean your item. Use it often to keep your piece in top condition.

Other things to note:

  • Keep it away from harsh chemicals, perfumes and any lotions

  • Wear it often, the natural oils on your skin act as barriers that prevent the silver from oxidising

  • Store the piece in a dry and cool place

  • Avoid wooden boxes that may be treated with chemicals

It’s also natural your piece will start to show signs of wear. Precious markings that are unique to you and the life you're living. Whilst sterling silver is sturdy, it’s not indestructible and can be prone to scuffing. To avoid any large marks or warping, we recommend taking off your jewellery if you're performing tasks that require you to use force/grip tightly onto an object, are working out, where it would be a safety hazard and avoid contact with surfaces it may be knocked or cause scratches.

If you’re Australia-based we offer complimentary polishing just chuck us an email at hello@arawarvo.com.au with your order number and photos. You’ll just need to cover shipping fees there and back. Just note, polishing removes a small layer of silver. Depending on what your piece has lived through, any deep or large marks may not be able to be removed in case it ruins any carvings or the structural integrity of the piece. Guess they’ll be your scars of honour eh?
